Krispy Kreme, global doughnut company and coffeehouse chain, is aiming to improve road safety, reduce insurance costs and enhance duty of care following the adoption of a 3G vehicle camera solution from Intelligent Telematics. The IT1000 forward facing camera, the most sophisticated device of its kind currently available to the fleet sector, will be fitted to the company’s entire UK delivery operation, made up of fifty light commercial vehicles, to provide added visibility and control over mobile resources.

Krispy Kreme was previously using vehicle tracking to monitor driver performance, including speeding and harsh driving events such as acceleration, deceleration and corning, and was looking for vehicle camera to complement and enhance the telematics system. Initially, the company was considering a standard SD-card solution, but following a detailed review of the marketplace chose a 3G device because of the added benefits it could deliver in terms of ease of use, live alerts and access to footage.

The IT1000 will provide complete visibility of all collisions and driving incidents across the commercial vehicle fleet via an online portal, with an email, screen pop up or SMS notification when an event has occurred. Krispy Kreme will now be able to monitor the vans, which operate nationwide from twelve regional hubs, from its head office in Camberley, Surrey. As a result, the company will have immediate access to video footage and important vehicle data to support its driver training programme, defend against fraudulent insurance claims and prove who is at fault when following an incident.

Ben Povey, Logistics Manager at Krispy Kreme UK Ltd commented: “This solution will provide wide ranging benefits to our business without causing any disruption to our delivery operation. By selecting a 3G vehicle camera over a SD-card device, we can gain a live view of any incidents to ensure we are operating a safe and responsible fleet, while at the same time target insurance and fuel savings. Intelligent Telematics has been able to deliver a complete solution that has met our precise needs and supported us throughout the installation process.”

Sam Footer, Head of International Business and Strategic Development at Intelligent Telematics said: “Our IT1000 forward facing camera can provide unrivalled visibility of road collisions and other harsh driving events, so businesses can reduce the severity and frequency of vehicle fleet insurance claims, while helping modify driving styles and minimise potential risk. As a result, we are seeing increasing demand for 3G cameras from car, van and commercial vehicle cameras.”
