Side detection sensors provide warning system to the driver and other road users

Intelligent Installations has introduced a range of vehicle sensors that are designed to better protect vulnerable road users, enhance duty of care and reduce avoidable vehicle damage. The sensors can used as a standalone system or part of a wider multi-camera solution, making them particularly suited for the Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) and Crossrail compliance.

The side detection solution uses ultrasonic sensors that have been specifically developed to provide a warning system to the driver about the proximity of other road users, giving adequate time to adjust their manoeuvre and avoid a collision. Meanwhile, at risk pedestrians and cyclists can also receive an audible alert via an externally fitted loudspeaker to make them aware of a turning vehicle, enabling them to step back or to move away from a dangerous position.

In addition, a side corner protection system provides an effective means of preventing unnecessary bumps and scrapes when manoeuvring at low speed, avoiding costly repair bills and operational downtime, by providing visibility of any objects in the front nearside blind spot. It automatically activates when a vehicle is travelling below 10mph, with the driver receiving alerts via a traffic light visual display. If the driver ignores the green and amber lights, the red light is accompanied by a continuous audible warning tone.
